Fritillaria graeca

Bulb: To 2.5cm diameter

Stem: 6 - 20cm tall

Leaves: 5 - 12, glaucous, the lowest often opposite, the rest alternate, the upper 3 sometimes in a whorl, ovate to lanceolate

Flowers: 1 - 3 wide bells

Segments: 1.5 - 3.5cm, outer 7 - 10mm, inner 12 - 14mm wide, green or purple with purplish-brown tessellation and bold green fascia

Nectaries: Lanceolate, 5 - 6mm above the base of the bell

Style: 7 - 10mm, trifid, lobes 3 - 6mm

Capsule: Not winged

Flowering time: III - V

Habitat: On limestone in woods, scrub and screes up to 2000m

Distribution: Albania, Yugoslavia, Greece, Crete

Cultivation: Easy in a bulb frame or alpine house, gritty soil. Possibly in well-drained, sunny position in the rock garden
