Bulb: To 3cm diameter

Stem: 15 - 30cm high

Leaves: 7 - 10, narrow lanceolate, glaucous, alternate

Flowers: 1 or 2 broad bells, widened at mouth, dark black purplish, in general without fascia, inside greenish-yellow, usually tessellated with brown, but sometimes plain

Segments: 2.5 - 3.5cm long, outer 7 - 10mm, inner 10 - 15mm wide, recurved at tip

Nectaries: Triangular or ovate about 5mm above base of perianth

Style: 8 - 10mm, trifid, lobes 2 - 4mm

Capsule: Not winged

Flowering time: IV - VI

Habitat: Mountain meadows and rocky woods, 450 - 2000m

Distribution: Southern France, Pyrenees, NW Spain

Cultivation: Easy outside, in thin grass, well-drained soil
