Bulb: Up to 2cm in diameter, with several scales.

Stem: 4-10cm tall.

Leaves: 2-4, alternate, glaucous.

Flowers: 1-4, broadly campanulate large, colour ranging from yellow to brownish often yellow speckled with brown.

Tepals: 1.5-2cm x 6cm

Nectaries: 5-7mm, above base.

Style: Up to 1.2cm, trifid, branches 6-9mm long.

Capsule: Not winged.

Flowering time: IV-V11

Habitat: Rocky slopes and trees, often serpentine.

Distribution: Coastal ranges of Northern California to the Siskiyou Mts. in Oregon.

Cultivation: Not an easy plant, needing deep soil, moist in spring, fairly dry in summer and autumn.
